Learning The Hard Way

As I strapped on my roller skates and skated on to the rink at Skateland, I could imagine my sisters with me as we raced down the driveway, making loops around the cars. We would play roller derby with our knee-hi socks, giving each other a push from behind to go faster. I also remember how I could spin around and skate backwards. My sister Karen was the best at it of course, she was the athletic one. I had more style and seemed to be helping my youngest sister Cynthia who was always trying to keep up.

As I held my right wrist carefully in my left hand, I was wondering why I couldn't jump back up to join the rest of the skaters. I quickly flashed forward 30 years and let reality catch up with my reminiscent mind. I have never not gotten up from a fall, this was my first time and probably won't be my last. I am pretty sure I am giving up rollerskating. I will have to be content to watch from the sidelines.

Today I can only use my left hand, I don't want to jeopardize the healing in my wrist because I want to avoid surgery. Brett helps me put my contacts in, Mike puts rollers in my hair, and Josh gives me sympathy hugs. All in all it is do-able except for the No Driving thing for 6 weeks..that may sting a little.

Josh voted Green, Brett voted Purple..and Purple won!

oh my gosh. i'm not laughing or anything! you should have asked my advice first--you can't do the things you did when you were a teenager as well. ha ha you do look pretty cool with the purple cast though. i would love to be around when you get asked how you broke your wrist.

I hope you are hanging in there OK. I'll keep checking in on you but please call me if you need ANYTHING. Even just a good blow dry. You can't do that one handed. I'm about 30 seconds away.
